Maine Scholastic Chess Team Championships Tournament Report

Two hundred fifty-two scholastic chess players turned out for the 2022 Maine Scholastic Chess Team Championships played at Lewiston High School on Saturday, March 12, 2022. Titles and trophies were awarded in five sections: High School Championship, High School Reserve, Middle School Championship, Elementary Championship, and Primary Championship.

MECA President Michael Dudley Awarded ICCF Correspondence Chess Expert Title

On February 28, 2022, MECA President Michael Dudley was awarded the title of Correspondence Chess Expert from the International Correspondence Chess Federation (ICCF). In order to receive this title, a player has to obtain two tournament norms in certain tournaments totaling at least 24 games, meeting a designated performance in each tournament. We extend our hearty congratulations!

Bowdoin/USM Chess Action Tournament Report

February 28, 2022

On February 26, 2022, seventeen players from Bowdoin and the University of Southern Maine gathered at Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick, Maine, for a series of Scheveningen System matches. Four teams, an A team and a B team, gathered up for US Chess rated matches and competition for trophies and prizes.

Maine Women's and Girls' Championships Tournament Report

February 27, 2022

Twenty-two chess players, including Kathy Richards herself, gathered in Brunswick to play in the Richards Maine Girls' Chess Championship and the fourth Maine Women's Championship. The Richards is Maine's nominating tournament for the WIM Ruth Haring National Girls' Tournament of Champions, held this year in Rancho Mirage, California, and the Susan Polgar Invitational, held at Webster University in Saint Louis, Missouri.

Roger J. Morin Scholarship Application Available

February 18, 2022

The application for the Roger J. Morin Scholarship Prizes is up! The Morin Scholarship is open to Maine graduating seniors and undergraduate students who are members of the chess community and actively engaged or committed to college in the Fall of 2022. This year, up to five awards of up to $750 total will be awarded. Applications should be submitted by March 31 for consideration; awards will be announced by April 30, 2022.

Last Call for George Cunningham Brilliancy Prize Submissions for Q4 2021

This is a last call for any game submissions for the latest George Cunningham Brilliancy Prize, which will reward a brilliant game played during Quarter 4 of 2021 (October, November, and December).
