One hundred twenty-two scholastic chess players from across the state descended on Messalonskee Middle School in Oakland, Maine on Saturday, March 19th to compete for state scholastic chess championship titles in the high school, middle school, and elementary school sections of the 2022 Maine Scholastic Individual Chess Championships. |

Eighty-four players competed in four US Chess rated sections at the All Saints Winter Warm-Up played at All Saints Catholic School in Bangor on Saturday, February 26, 2022. Winners were: Maximus Mclean and Derrick Johnson in the K-5 section, Isaac Klein in the K-8 section, Jacon Klein and Declan Thomas in the K-12 section, and Gabe Eaton in the Open section. On February 28, 2022, MECA President Michael Dudley was awarded the title of Correspondence Chess Expert from the International Correspondence Chess Federation (ICCF). In order to receive this title, a player has to obtain two tournament norms in certain tournaments totaling at least 24 games, meeting a designated performance in each tournament. We extend our hearty congratulations! |

On February 26, 2022, seventeen players from Bowdoin and the University of Southern Maine gathered at Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick, Maine, for a series of Scheveningen System matches. Four teams, an A team and a B team, gathered up for US Chess rated matches and competition for trophies and prizes. |

Twenty-two chess players, including Kathy Richards herself, gathered in Brunswick to play in the Richards Maine Girls' Chess Championship and the fourth Maine Women's Championship. The Richards is Maine's nominating tournament for the WIM Ruth Haring National Girls' Tournament of Champions, held this year in Rancho Mirage, California, and the Susan Polgar Invitational, held at Webster University in Saint Louis, Missouri. |
