All Saints Winter Warm-Up Tournament Report
03.20.22 Eighty-four players competed in four US Chess rated sections at the All Saints Winter Warm-Up played at All Saints Catholic School in Bangor on Saturday, February 26, 2022. Winners were: Maximus Mclean and Derrick Johnson in the K-5 section, Isaac Klein in the K-8 section, Jacon Klein and Declan Thomas in the K-12 section, and Gabe Eaton in the Open section. Maximus McLean and Derrick Johnson topped the twenty-six palyer K-5 section with 4.5 points in five games. They were trailed by Francis Bayless and Avery Zhang who put up 4.0 points to finish in equal 3rd-4th place.
In the K-8 section, Isaac Klien rose to the top of the crosstable with a perfect four wins in four games for a clear first place finish. Five players tied for second scoring 3.0 points including: Christian Zhang, Garrett Rosania, Evan Babcock, Tobias Dobson, and Benjamin McGraw.
The thirty-two player K-12 section was the tournament's largest. Jacob Klien and Decklan Schilling tied for first with unbeaten and untied 4.0-point finishes. A logjam of players lined up to tie for first with 3.0 points including: Walker Bayless, Ethan Yu, Maximillion Matthews, Albert Bai, Zachary Holt, Aminzaya Battulga, Joshua Lorenzo, and Maximus McLean.
Gabe Eaton was perfect on the day in the ten-player Open section with 4.0 points in as many games. Eaton was trailed by Tony Freudig and Molly Tefft who put up 3.0 points and tied for 2nd-3rd.
