Two hundred sixty-eight scholastic chess players descended on the University of Maine in Orono to play in the 2015 Maine State Scholastic Team Chess Championships on Saturday, March 7th. Players competed in nine sections and state titles were decided in the K-3, K-6, Junior High School and High School sections. Over sixty 60 players competed in six sections at the 2015 All Saints Winter Warm-Up tournament hosted by All Saints School in Bangor on February 21st. Vietnam veteran, USCF life member, and Maine tournament player Roger Peterson has established a gofundme page to raise money for the publication of a lifelong book project. The book, one of a trilogy which has been in the works since 1975, includes mystery, intrigue, suspense, fast paced action, and murder. A portion of the proceeds from Roger's books will go to the Wounded Warrior Project and to help abused and neglected children. |

Four Houlton tournament stalwarts turned out for the January Houlton Open at the Art Studio in Houlton. Ray Haines won his first two games and that was enough despite a last round loss to Roger Hardison. Trailing the leader was Roger Morin and Lance Beloungie with 1.5 points and Roger Hardison with 1.0 point. |
