11th Annual ChessMaine.net Championship Tournament Report

The 11th Annual ChessMaine.net Championship was played at John Bapst Memorial High School on Saturday, October 22, 2017. The tournament was won by Jarod Bryan with a perfect 4.0 points in four games. Cape Elizabeth National Chess Day Tournament Report

October 17, 2017

In an initiative to boost chess activity in the southern part of Maine, the Cape Elizabeth Chess Club established a new chess tournament, allowing more players from the greater Portland to compete in chess related events. On Saturday, October 14th, twenty-six players participated in the Cape Elizabeth National Chess Day tournament. We bring you the tournament report with US Chess crosstables.

Brewer National Chess Day Tournament Report

October 17, 2017

On October 14, 2017, twenty-two players celebrated National Chess Day by participating in the Brewer National Chess Day Tournament held at Machias Savings Bank in Brewer. Brian Hurst won the six-player Open section with a perfect 3.0 points. Kaleb Pendleton went unbeaten and untied in the U1000 section with 4.0 points. The Art of Chess Journalism at Maine Maritime Academy

ChessMaine.net Editor and Maine Chess Association Vice President Dan DeLuca guest lectured to an Honors Seminar class at Maine Maritime Academy on the topic of The Art of Chess Journalism. The seminar, Chess as Metaphor, is co-taught by Paul Wlodkowski, Tom Batt, and Amy Gutow and spans the fields of history, mathematics, military strategy, economics, psychology, and international affairs.

Crusader Cup Standings

The Crusader Cup is a four-tournament, year-long competition hosted by John Bapst Memorial High School. One tournament, the Bapst End of Summer tournament, has been played with three remaining. Bangor Open Tournament Report

October 5, 2017

Twenty players competed in the 2017 Bangor Open held at the Ramada Inn in Bangor on September 30th - October 1st. GM Alexander Ivanov took first in the Open section with a clean-slate four for four. In the U1750 section, John Brady and Benjamin Mock shared first with 3.5 points apiece. Here's the illustrated tournament report with USCF crosstables.
