September Houlton Open Tournament Report

The Art Studio in Houlton hosted a ten-player tournament on September 19th. A three-way tie for first ensued between Roger Morin, Leonardo Cui (who proved that his first USCF rating of 1823 in July was not a fluke) and Ray Haines all who scored 2.5 points in three rounds. July Houlton Open Tournament Report

We're catching up on some tournaments played over the summer when the grass needed mowing, the gardens weeding and the goats milking. Here's one such seven-player tournament from July 25th in which Roger Morin took first and thirteen-year-old Leonardo Cui from Canada got his first USCF rating--a whopping 1823. Fort Fairfield Quad Report

October 5, 2015

On July 11th a quad tournament was held in one of the northernmost hamlets of Maine--Fort Fairfield. Four players competed in the rated section and a four-game unrated match was also contested. Highest-rated Ray Haines walked away with first in the rated section scoring a perfect 3.0 points. In the unrated match, Lois Morin outplayed Nancy Beloungie with a score of 3-1. Matthew Fishbein and Ian Youth Compete at Denker and Barber Tournaments

Matthew Fishbein and Ian Youth represented Maine at the 2015 Denker Tournament of High School Champions and 2015 Barber Tournament of K-8 Champions played in Phoenix, Arizona on August 1-4. This tournament brings together state champions from around the country and the competition, as you can imagine, is very stiff. Matthew turned in a fine performance with 3.0 points in six rounds as did Ian who scored 2.5 points. Matthew's dad, Dan Fishbein, submitted this report.

Jarod Bryan Victorious at ChessMaine.net Championship

July 2, 2015

Jarod Bryan swept the field to take first in the Open section at the ChessMaine.net Championship played at Colby College in Waterville on Saturday, June 27th. Joe Powell, Frank Collemer, and Ben Amar shared the top spot in the U1550 section and Bill Hartt was all alone at the top of the U1250 section with a perfect 4.0 points in four games.

Cheverus High School Competes at Nationals

Students from Cheverus High School in Portland, Maine competed in the National High School Championship in Columbus, Ohio on April 10-12, 2015. Cheverus fielded two teams and took 32nd place in the U1600 section 15th in the unrated section. Here's the illustrated tournament report with USCF crosstables.
