Maine Chess Association President Michael Dudley has penned the first Maine Chess Association Coaches' Communique. This letter to Maine Chess Coaches provides an update on scholastic chess in Maine, describes the rebirth of the Maine Girls' Championship and introduction of the Maine Women's Championship as well as offers support for chess coaches accross the state. Bapst Impromptu Swiss #13 Tournament Report

Dan Robbins and Nathan Gates shared equal first at the Bapst Impromptu Swiss #13 played on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor. Apart from the winners, the biggest newsmaker of this tournament was Shannon Levesque, the new treasurer of the Maine Chess Association who, with a provisional rating of 100, took down Minh Nguyen rated 794 points higher.

Owen's Farmhouse Chess Tournament Report

Cui Siblings Win Houlton August Open

August 12, 2018

The dynamic sister and brother duo of Cynthia and Leonardo Cui finished equal first at the Houlton August Open played in Houlton, Maine on Saturday, August 11, 2018. Although Cynthia won their individual encounter, Leonardo fought back in the final round to notch a win vs Ray Haines while Cynthia dropped her only game of the tournament to Wyatt Hendrix. Google Doodle Celebrates Lyudmila Rudenko

It's not everyday that you see a reference to chess on Google's homepage so we sat up and took notice. The Google Doodle, as it is called, on July 27th celebrated the Ukrainian Women's World Champion Lyudmila Rudenko on her 114th birthday.

Wyatt Hendrix Wins Potato Blossom Festival Chess Tournament

July 26, 2018

Ten players ventured up to Fort Fairfield, Maine on July 14th to compete in the annual four round G/60 Potato Blossom Festival Chess Tournament. Topping the crosstable with 3.5 points was Hermon High School student Wyatt Hendrix with 3.5 points. Roger Morin was just off the leader's pace with 3.0 points; his only loss was to the tournament winner. Here is the illustrated tournament report with US Chess crosstable.
