Maine Players at the SuperNationals

With over 5,000 scholastic players competing from all across America, the SuperNationals, being played this weekend in Nashville, Tennessee, is by far the largest chess tournament in the United States. Maine Individual Scholastic Championship Tournament Report

New state champions were named in each category at the Maine Individual Scholastic Championship Tournament played on March 21, 2009 at the University of Maine, Orono. Congratulations to our State Champions: Gabe Borland (High School), Matthew Fishbein (Junior High School), Matthew Reale-Hatem (Elementary), Kinsey Bartlett and Max DeLuca Lowell (Primary).

Margaret Bryan Repeats as Girls State Champion

Margaret Bryan scored a perfect 4.0 points in as many rounds at the 2009 Maine Girls Chess Championship played at the University of Maine, Orono on March 14th to notch her second championship in four years. Anne Witick took the top spot in the Under 600 section with 3.5 points.

All Saints Winter Warm-Up Tournament Report

Forty-four players competed in five sections at the All Saints Winter Warm-Up Tournament at the All Saints School in Bangor on February 7, 2009. Top finishers were: Aaron Spencer (Open), Jaiwei Zou, Gianluca Pane, Paul Rudnicki (K-12), Alessandro Pane (K-8), Bethany Humphrey (K-6) and Max DeLuca Lowell (K-3). ChessMaine Interviews: Curt Brock

ChessMaine interviews Curt Brock, one of the finest gentlemen on the Maine chess curcuit both on and off the board. Curt scored 3.5 points to win the 2008 Downeast Open with a performance rating of 2190--a full 637 points higher than his rating at the time.
