A Call for Tournaments in Central and Northern Maine
05.25.09 A venue has been secured for chess tournaments in East Millinocket that is convenient to Interstate 95. The only missing ingredients thus far are players and a tournamement director.
There is an opportunity to rent a large room at the municipal building in E. Millinocket just three miles from Interstate 95 on Saturdays for chess tournaments. If any tournament directors are interested it would be great having some 4 to 6 tournaments a year in this area. Money is available for this room.
If you feel that maybe this is too far for you to travel from wherever you live contact me anyway.
If another area interests you I'll do my best to find a site if this is the problem. I certainly would like to see more tournaments north of Waterville, especially the Ellsworth, Calais, Orono, Bangor and even further north. Is anyone interested in the Presque Isle area?

I have already contacted Roger and offered chess books as added prizes when possible. He will keep me informed.

My wife Lois brought to my attention that maybe one of the spouses, family members or friends of a chess player may be interested in becoming a tournament director for the northern Maine area. It's fairly easy to learn and their are plenty of people who would help .

I for one would volunteer to assist any TD, that will be willing to run a tourney! Great time of year up here! Tourist season & all. Chess players from afar might want to play in a tournament in the Millinocket area. Plenty of fishing afterwards, lol.
