1st Annual East Millinocket Open Tournament Report

Thirteen players vied for prizes in the first ever East Millinocket Open on Saturday August 15, 2009. Roger Morin, the highest rated player, showed his dominance by winning all four of his rounds and taking the championship. Other winners were: Steve Abrahams (Class B), Roger Hardison (Class C), Margaret Bryan (Class D), Eli Daiute (under 1200) and David Ngo (under 800).

L'Heritage Classique Octo Championships Tournament Report

Twenty-five chess players took part in the L'Heritage Classique Octo Championships on July 25 & 26, 2009 held at the Ramada Conference Center in Lewiston. This was the first event organized in Maine by ChessDreams, an organizer and sponsor of more than forty USCF-rated and non-rated chess events in California, prior to moving to Maine.

Margaret Bryan Represents Maine at Polgar Invitational

The Maine State Scholastic Girls Champion Margaret Bryan represented Maine in the 2009 Susan Polgar National Invitational for Girls held in Lubbock, Texas from July 26 - 31. Margaret scored 2.5 points to finish 41st out of a very strong field of 60 state champions and invited players.

Record Numbers at Third Annual ChessMaine.net Championship

Adam Schaff, Roger Morin and Phil Lowell scored 3.5 points to top a field of fifty-four players at the third annual ChessMaine.net Championship played at Colby College on June 27, 2009. We had to go back a few years to find a non-scholastic tournament in Maine that had attracted more players than this one--twelve years in fact. Not since the Downeast Open in 1997 have we seen more than fifty-four players at an open tournament in Maine.

ChessMaine.net Championship Highlighted in Morning Sentinel

The upcoming ChessMaine.net Championship to be played in the Diamond Building at Colby College this Saturday, June 27th was featured in the Morning Sentinel newspaper in Waterville, Maine. Change of Room for ChessMaine.net Championship

Because of factors beyond our control we were forced to change the playing room of the ChessMaine.net Championship scheduled for June 27, 2009 at Colby College in Waterville. The tournament will now be played in the Diamond Building Rooms 145 and 153. We apologize for the inconvenience and are offering a complimentary continental breakfast to all players. Signs will be posted on campus directing players to the Diamond Building.
