Owen's Farmhouse Chess Tournament Report

Cui Siblings Win Houlton August Open

August 12, 2018

The dynamic sister and brother duo of Cynthia and Leonardo Cui finished equal first at the Houlton August Open played in Houlton, Maine on Saturday, August 11, 2018. Although Cynthia won their individual encounter, Leonardo fought back in the final round to notch a win vs Ray Haines while Cynthia dropped her only game of the tournament to Wyatt Hendrix. Google Doodle Celebrates Lyudmila Rudenko

It's not everyday that you see a reference to chess on Google's homepage so we sat up and took notice. The Google Doodle, as it is called, on July 27th celebrated the Ukrainian Women's World Champion Lyudmila Rudenko on her 114th birthday.

Wyatt Hendrix Wins Potato Blossom Festival Chess Tournament

July 26, 2018

Ten players ventured up to Fort Fairfield, Maine on July 14th to compete in the annual four round G/60 Potato Blossom Festival Chess Tournament. Topping the crosstable with 3.5 points was Hermon High School student Wyatt Hendrix with 3.5 points. Roger Morin was just off the leader's pace with 3.0 points; his only loss was to the tournament winner. Here is the illustrated tournament report with US Chess crosstable.

Maine Tops US Chess Member Appreciation Program

July 22, 2018

Through its Membership Appreciation Program (MAP), US Chess maintains a year-long membership drive and provides prizes and recognition for affiliates and members who sign up new or renew US Chess members. In the Small State Affiliate Standings, Maine holds the top three places having signed up or renewed 180 members so far in 2018. Congratulations and thanks to our players, organizers, and directors for making Maine a leader in the promotion of American chess!
