Alan Kobernat, a former master from California on a mission to play a USCF-rated tournament in each of the 50 states, added Maine to his list in winning style. Scoring a perfect 4.0, Kobernat just edged out last year's ChessMaine.net Championship winner Philip Lowell who scored 3.5 points. |

The 2nd Annual ChessMaine.net Championship will be played at Colby College in Waterville on Saturday, June 28, 2008. A $400 prize fund based on 30 entries has been established with $100 going to the winner and $50 to first in each section A-E and U1000. Maine has four scholastic players in the USCF Top 100 Lists for June 2008. Lucas McCain (1816), Fritz Eyerer (1791), Matthew Fishbein (1363) and Margaret Bryan (1360) each cracked the list of the top 100 rated players in the nation for their age group. |

The Adventures at Huse project is an overall effort of the Sagadahoc Commununity Justice Project in partnership with the Bath School Department to facilitate out-of-school activities for youth and families. These programs are held at the Huse School on 39 Andrews Street in Bath. This Saturday, June 7, 2008 Chess instructor Sean Donovan will be giving a chess workshop for all ages. |

Sixteen students at Cornville Elementary School recently played in their school's four round chess championship. A new experience for many of the players this tournament nonetheless produced some exciting and fighting games. A three-way tie for first resulted between Kaytlin Allen, William Kelly and Orion Poulin. |
