Live Chess Coming to Maine Celtic Celebration

06.19.08 Live Chess Coming to Maine Celtic Celebration by Bob MacGregor
What would happen if chess met World Wide Wrestling? It would be "Live Chess." No chess experience is necessary to participate in this silly, loud, and crazy game. We need you to play a chess piece. You will not be required to make decisions but if you can shout and cheer loudly and/or can "die" dramatically we need you.

This year's theme is the English versus the Celts in the first ever "historically correct" Live Chess game. Play the English (red) team under the command of King Edward I, the "Hammer of the Scots" or play the rebellious Scots team (black) under the command of Robert the Bruce. Costumes will be provided.

Come to the Celtic Festival on Saturday July 19 and be a part of "history." We will be assigning parts at 2:30 and playing at 3:00. The game will take place in Harbor Park behind French and Webb on Front Street. The game lasts about one hour. Noise makers and cheering sections welcome.

The Maine Celtic Celebration runs July 17-20 on the Belfast waterfront. For more information call 207-338-2692 or visit the Maine Celtic Celebration website.
