Scotland Travelogue

After Zurich, the Edinburgh Chess Club is the oldest functioning club in the world. We were recently in Scotland, visited the Edinburg Chess Club, and played chess in some far-flung Scottish locations including the Isle of Skye and up in the Highlands. We're delighted to share our impressions and images of both the club and this beautiful country as well as the Tale of the Lewis Chessmen.

Bapst Impromptu Tournament Report

Fourteen players competed on short notice for the first Bapst Impromtu tournament held at John Bapst Memorial High School on Tuesday, August 15th. Ben Amar topped the crosstable with 3.0 points. He was closely trailed by Wyatt Hendrix and Ben Mock with 2.5 points. The second Bapst Improptu tournament is coming up on Tuesday, August 29th. Hope to see you there!

Mainers at the 47th Continental Open

Thirteen Maine players took part in the 47th Continental Open played on August 10-13, 2017 in Sturbridge, Mass. Chess mom and self-proclaimed chess neophyte Elisabeth Fowlie Mock attended the event, participated, and sent us this illustrated tournament report.

ChessMaine.net Receives 2017 CJA Award for Best USCF State Chapter Website

The Chess Journalists of America Awards, recognizing the best in chess journalism, were announced at the annual CJA meeting on August 4th, 2017. ChessMaine.net was honored in the Electronic Media category as the best USCF State Chapter Website. We are humbled to accept this award on behalf of all of those contributing their efforts to promote chess in Maine. Roger Morin Back in the Saddle with a win at August Houlton Open

August 8, 2017

Roger Morin won the seven-player August Houlton Open played at the Art Studio in Houlton on August 5th with 3.5 points in four games. Lance Beloungie took clear second with 3.0 points and Leonardo Cui and Ray Haines shared third with 2.5 points apiece. Here's the tournament report with crosstables.
