Fishbein Goes 5/5 to Win Maine Closed Championship!

Matthew Fishbein has won the 2016 Maine Closed Championship and with it the title of 2016 State Champion with a perfect score of 5.0 points in five games. This is Fishbein's third Maine Championship win but the first as sole winner. In 2012 he tied with Jarod Bryan and Aaron Spencer and in 2013 he tied with Ruben Babayan and Joshua Quint. Cape Elizabeth Chess Team Featured in the Current

The Cape Elizabeth High School chess team has been featured in the online journal Current. After an impressive victory at the scholastic team championships in March, Matthew Fishbein, Cape's top board, has played in his last Maine scholastic championship. Taking Fishbein's place on board one for Cape Elizabeth in academic year 2016-2017 will be Wesley Parker, currently the second highest-rated scholastic player in the state.

Maine Mathematics Science & Engineering Talent Search

For over 16 years, the Maine Mathematics Science & Engineering Talents Search (MMSETS) has been offering a variety of mathematics, engineering, and problem-solving enrichment classes for children and adults alike. MMSETS has offered after school and vacation workshops for children, problem solving competitions, workshops for children and adults, and continuing education and curriculum development classes for teachers. Over the years, many students who have taken part in MMSETS classes, camps and workshops have also been involved with scholastic chess in their schools and communities. ChessMaine pleased to pool our efforts to enrich the MMSETS curriculum with chess and chess instruction for children across the state.

2016 Maine Closed Championship: April 9-10!

The 2016 Maine Closed Championship is next weekend, April 9-10, at the Waterville Grand Hotel. There's still time to reserve a room at the "Chess Rate" of $69. Also, registering before April 6 with Andy Bryan will save $15 on entry fee. Contact Andy at bvbryan@aol.com and include your USCF ID# if you are a member.
