SPNI Final Results

Courtney Jamison of Texas has won the Susan Polgar National Invitational for Girls. A final round draw with Linda Diaz put her out of reach of the rest of the field with 5.5 points in 6 rounds. Maine Girls Champion Sorel Edes finished the tournament with 2.5 points and tied for 33rd place.

Denker Tournament of High School Champions Kicks Off

August 1, 2008

Former John Bapst Memorial High School student and Newburgh resident Fritz Eyerer will compete in this year's prestigious Denker Tournament of High School Champions which will be played August 2-5, 2008 concurrently with the U.S. Open in Dallas, Texas. Eyerer qualified for this tournament based on his performance at the Maine High School Championship tournament earlier this year.

SPNI Round 5 Results

In the penultimate round, Maine's Sorel Edes posted her second victory of the tournament, this time winning against Georgia Olvera (1292) of Texas. After 5 rounds she has 2.5 points and a +330 performance rating. She will have black vs. Mira Ensley-Field (1258) of Wisconsin in the final round.

SPNI Round 4 Results

Round 4 of the Susan Polgar National Invitational for Girls propelled Courtney Jamison (2051) of Texas to the top of the crosstable with a perfect 4.0 points in as many games. Maine's hometown hero was defeated in round 4 and will play Georgia Olvera (1292), also from Texas, in round 5.

SPNI Round 3 Results

Maine Girls Champion Sorel Edes defeated Autumn Douthitt (1154) of Tennessee in round 3 of the Susan Polgar National Invitational to move up to an even score of 1.5/3.0. In round 4 she will play the black pieces on board 15 vs. Elizabeth Oliver (1322) of Nebraska.

SPNI Round 2 Results

Sorel Edes managed a draw in round 2 with Georgia's Ananaya Roy (1683), a player rated nearly 600 points higher. Today in round 3 she will be playing the white pieces vs. the girls state champion from Tenneseee, Autumn Douthitt (1154).

The 2008 Maine Girls Champion Sorel Edes will soon be making her way to Lubbock, Texas to compete in the Susan Polgar National Invitational for Girls tournament taking place from July 27 - August 1. Thanks to generous donations from many of our readers, including one from New Zealand, the financial burden of her trip will be eased a bit.
