States Cup Round 3: Watch Live Tonight at 7:00 p.m. Eastern

Jarod Bryan and Wyatt Hendrix Win 2020 Maine Championship

Jarod Bryan and Wyatt Hendrix are the 2020 Maine State Chess Champions. Jarod Bryan claimed a share of the championship with 4.0/5. With this championship win, Jarod achieved the feat of a Maine Championship in each of the last five decades (1980s, 90s, 2000s, 10s, and 20s). Wyatt Hendrix also earned 4.0/5 to repeat as a co-champion. Congratulations to both of our Maine champions! Here is the illustrated tournament report with images and US Chess crosstables.

In Memory: Allan James Braff (1930-2020)

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Allan James Braff of Cape Elizabeth. Allan was a good friend of the Maine Chess Community often visiting The Works Bakery Cafe for Sunday morning chess. His close friend and fellow chess player Jon Malev described Allan as a tough fun-loving opponent and a furious tactician. Our most sincere condolences and sympathy are extended to Allan's family and friends.

2nd Bangor City Championship Tournament Report

The 2nd Bangor City Championship was played on August 9-10, 2020 at the Creative Arts Center in Brewer, Maine. One of the few over-the-board tournaments to take place in Maine over the past few months, the Championship attracted six players who participated in a five-round G/75 +15 tournament.
