Belfast Free Library and Regional School Unit 71's chess program held a winter elementary school chess tournament Feb. 11, with 31 students from Capt. Albert Stevens, Nickerson, and Ames elementary schools and one from Cornerspring Montessori School participating.

A major ice storm not withstanding, the 2020 Lincolnville Central School K-8 Chess Tournament was held on Sunday, February 9th in Lincolnville. The Tournament attracted twenty-eight players looking to hone their skills in preparation for the Maine Scholastic Team and Individual Chess Championships that will take place in March. We bring you the illustrated tournament report with results and crosstables.

The Maine Chess Association hosted 2017 Women's Chess Champion WGM Sabina Foisor as a special guest at the 2020 Maine Women's and Girls' Chess Championships played at John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor on Saturday, February 8th. After the Championships concluded, WGM Foisor provided an exclusive training session geared especially for the players followed by a thirty-board simultaneous exhibition.

It was twice as nice for Kathy Richards and Agata Sloniewska at the 2020 Maine Women's and Girls Chess Championships played on Saturday, February 8th at John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor. Both players scored an unbeaten and untied 4.0 points in four rounds in their sections to repeat as Maine Women's and Girls' Chess Champions. Scholastic chess tournaments in Maine continue to impress with the interest they generate and the numbers of players they attract. The 21st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day tournament played on Monday, January 20, 2020 at the Old Town United Methodist Church in Old Town, Maine attracted 105 players in six sections: Open, K-12, K-8, K-6, K-4, and a non-rated section. Thanks to the organizers, directors, and players for making this tournament a huge success.

Thirty-three players turned out for the John Bapst Fall Tournament played at John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor on Saturday, November 16, 2019. The four-round, G/45 +5 tournament offered three sections Open, U1500, and U1000. Winners were: Wyatt Hendrix (Open), Tony Freudig (U1500), and Samanthak Thiagarajan (U1000).
