Downeast Open and RBO Tournament Report

Lucas McCain and Rob Shore shared first in the open section of the Downeast Open played at Southern Maine Community College on July 17, 2010. Frank DiRenzo scored a perfect 4.0 points in the U1600 section and Deanna Power scored 2.5 points to win the U1400 prize. J. Paul Ciarrocchi and Gheorghe Teodorescu topped the RBO crosstable with 3.5 points apiece.

Calling Maine Chess Players for the Maine-NH Border Battle

On September 18th Maine will go to battle. The 1st Annual Maine vs. New Hampshire Chess Border Battle will commence. The event will feature 10 top players from Maine vs. 10 top players from New Hampshire.

Three Tie at ChessMaine.net Championship

Ruben Babayan, Steve Abrahams and Fritz Eyerer each scored 3.5 points to tie for first place at the ChessMaine.net Championship played on the campus of Colby College in Waterville on July 10, 2010. Here's the illustrated tournament report with USCF crosstable and selected games.

Game, Set and Match!

July 6, 2010

Chess matches (where two players play multiple games with each oher) are rare in Maine. Still, all that's required are two willing participants and a tournament director. On June 14-17, 2010 Roger Morin and Todd Snyder played a four-game match in Houlton, Maine. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.
