Ding Liren is 17th World Chess Champion!

Congratulations to World Chess Champion Ding Liren! The World Chess Championship Match went into the tiebreaking phase after the fourteen-game classical portion ended in a 7.0 to 7.0 tie. Official rules stipulated that the players would play four games at the rapid time control of G/25 +10. After three draws, Ding Liren, with the black pieces, played a sharp game in a Ruy Lopez and was able to threaten promotion which caused Ian Nepomniachtchi to resign after Ding's sixty-eighth move.

World Championship Match Report: Ding Wins Game 6, Match Tied

The World Chess Championship Match is being contested in Astana, Kazakhstan, from April 9-30 between Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren. After six games there have been four decisive results with each player posting two wins and two draws. This represents the most decisive Match up until this point since Karpov - Korchnoi 1981 which had the same score after six games.

Zoe Dinnerstein Provides Inspiration for Chess Club for those with Memory Loss

Maine scholastic chess player Zoe Dinnerstein, with the assistance of her father Dr. Eric Dinnerstein, havs facilitated a partnership between The Alzheimer's Association of Maine and the University of New England Center for Aging and Health to launch a six-session chess club program for early-stage patients and their family caregivers Saturday, March 4, from 10 to 11 a.m. on the UNE Portland campus. The pilot program will continue into May.

Presque Isle Library Joins National Oral History Project

The Mark and Emily Turner Memorial Library is the only library in Maine chosen to participate in a national oral history study of community libraries. The project, led by Jennifer Arns a professor emerita at the University of South Carolina, explores how libraries enrich their communities and why patrons value the facilities in the digital age.

2023 Queen City Tornado Tournament Report

On Saturday, February 25th an impressive 15 Maine chess players competed in the 9th Queen City Tornado tournament in Manchester, New Hampshire. The event attracted 185 players in four sections: Open, U1800, U1400, and U1200. Here's the tournament report with US Chess crosstables.
