Format

All scholastic players registered for play in any of the sanctioned OTB tournaments will have their tournament scores entered into the Scholastic Grand Prix throughout the season. All SGP tournaments feature over-the-board, US Chess rated scholastic play. The Maine Chess Association reserves the right to add or remove tournaments from the SGP lineup.

Scoring and Prizes

Three Scholastic sections will be considered for prizes: High School, 6-8, and K-5. The top five scores from each competing school will combine to provide the team score.

First place in the Scholastic Grand Prix for each section will be awarded both a traveling trophy.
Trophies will be awarded to the schools who finish the season in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Medals will be awarded to the winning teams' players.

In case schools tie for a particular place in the SGP, the tiebreaking protocol will add the sixth highest scoring player into the tied teams' score. This tiebreaker protocol does not affect the original score. After this tiebreak is exhausted, the modified median scores of each player on the tied teams will be summed, and the highest total score will be the
winner. If this does not resolve the tiebreak, the remaining US Chess specified tiebreakers will be summed for the tied teams the same way until a winner is determined.
