In Memory: Lois J. Morin

03.18.21 It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Lois J. Morin on April 14, 2020. Lois was a brilliant light on the landscape of Maine chess who stayed active in tournament chess into her eighties. She would often attend tournaments with her late husband former Maine state champion Roger Morin. In February 2016, Lois was rated second in the nation for women over the age of 80! Lois was a caring, compassionate, and loving friend who will be sorely missed. Our sincere condolences to Lois's family and friends.

So sad to hear about this.

I remember the first game I played at the Bangor chess club was against Lois as she and Roger had come down from Houlton to visit that night (which just so happened to be the first time I had ever went to a real club) and I consider that game against Lois to be the first serious chess game I ever played. She was always very special to all of us and will be sorely missed.
