Bapst End of Summer Tournament Report

On September 14th, thirty-three players bid summer adieu at the John Bapst Memorial High School End of Summer Tournament. The G/45 +5 event featured three sections: Open, U1500, and U1000. Here's is the illustrated tournament report with US Chess crosstables.

Roger J Morin Memorial Tournament Report

The Roger J Morin Memorial Tournament held on Sunday, September 8th at the University of Maine Orono, honored former Maine Chess Champion, artist, teacher, and friend Roger Morin who passed away on July 8, 2019. One of the goals of the tournament was to establish the Roger J Morin Scholarship Fund which will provide support for Maine chess players pursuing higher education. Thirty-four players competed in three sections. Winners were Jarod Bryan (Open), Zach Brislin and Joshua Starbird (U1600), and John Hoang (U1000). Grand Manan Island Travelogue

The height of chess popularity on the island of Grand Manan, New Brunswick, Canada was probably during the fall of 1984. That's when Jim Leslie, owner of the island's Marathon Inn, hosted the Grand Manan Fall Classic--a six-person double round robin tournament won by Grandmasters Yasser Seirawan and Anatoly Lein. Since then, interest in chess has waned to the point where there is currently no on-island chess club. With a visit to Grand Manan, and a donation of chess equipment and instruction, we aim to change that.
