Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School Hosts K-8 Chess Meet
01.10.17 Scholastic chess players from Fort O'Brien School in Machiasport, Stillwater Montessori School in Orono, Deer Isle-Stonington Elementary School, Bucksport Middle School, Lamoine Consolidated School and the hosting Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School met for an afternoon of chess and fun on Tuesday, January 10, 2017. These non-rated chess events are great primers for players gearing up for the State Scholastic Chess Championships in March. Thanks to all the players, organizers, coaches, parents, drivers, and volunteers for making this a very positive learning experience!
Chess players packed the house!
Chess is educational and fun at the same time--that's a great combination.
He sees it! Black played 3...Qh4 mate for a quick finish.
Former K-6 State Champion Oliver Brown-Patricio was spotted pushing some wood.
No Knight? No problem! These kids are pretty resourceful.
It's never too early to start thinking about chess.
For those looking for a break from the intense action of the chess games there was also a much more subdued competition going on--basketball!
The next K-8 Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School Chess Meet is scheduled for Wednesday, February 8, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Check ChessMaine.net/events for more information. Hope to see you there!
