UMA Quads Tournament Report

Twenty-nine players competed in the seven-section UMA Quads Tournament on November 14th at the University of Maine at Augusta. Jarod Bryan and Wiliam Ravn shared the top spot in Quad 1 as did Phil Lowell and Barry Magda in Quad 2. Here's the illustrated tournament report with USCF crosstables and three selected games.

November Houlton Open Tournament Report

Eight players, including Cynthia Cui who has just returned from the World Youth Championships in Greece, competed in the November Houlton Open at the Art Studio in Houlton on Saturday, November 14, 2015. Cui shared first place with Roger Morin both scoring 2.5 points in the three round event. Here's the illustrated tournament report with USCF crosstables.

Dick Powell and Gilda Garcia Become King and Queen

It is with great joy that we report the marriage of legendary Deer Isle-Stonington chess coach Dick Powell and Gilda Garcia. The newlyweds took their vows at the First Congregational Church in Deer Isle on Saturday, November 14th then celebrated with family and friends at Flex It Cafe and Bakery in Ellsworth. Here are some images from their first day as husband and wife.

ChessDrop is Here!

An innovative new free chess app for smartphones has been created by Matt Henderson and the folks at ChessDrop. ChessDrop is an online database that allows you to privately store and share your games. You can record individual games using a web browser or mobile apps for iOS and Andriod. You can also input multiple games by uploading a PGN database. After inputting your games, you can share them effortlessly with a click.

Carissa Yip and Cynthia Cui Compete in World Youth Championships

Carissa Yip (Massachusetts) and Cynthia Cui (New Brunswick) are competing in the Girls Under 12 section of the World Youth and Cadet Championships in Porto Carras, Halkidiki, Greece from October 25 - November 6, 2015. Both players have been previously mentioned on the pages of ChessMaine.net. Yip, who graced the cover of the August 2015 edition of ChessLife as the USCF's youngest female master, is seeded third in a field of 120 international players. Cui, who has played in tournaments in Houlton, Maine, is seeded 110th in that same field.
