The World Chess Championship Match 2014 between the current world champion, Magnus Carlsen, and challenger Viswanathan Anand, will be held from 7 November to 28 November 2014, under the auspices of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) in Sochi, Russia. Mark your calendars! The dates of the 2015 State Scholastic Chess Championship at the University of Maine in Orono are: Teams March 7th, (snow date March 14th) and Individuals March 21st. The Maine Association of Chess Coaches (MACC) had their semi-annual planning meeting on Saturday, October 18th at UMO to determine the dates of the tournament and take care of the many details involved in hosting the largest chess event in the state. The next MACC meeting is scheduled for Saturday, January 10th at the Memorial Union at UMO. All chess coaches are welcomed and invited to attend.

There have been quite a few major and minor changes and we urge all tournament directors and players to get a copy of this book and familiarize themselves with the updated official rules of our great game.

Twenty players celebrated National Chess Day at the Brewer Community School on October 11th, 2014. Roger Morin won the open section with 3.5 points and Adam Gagnon blanked his opponents in the U1000 section with a perfect 4.0 points to take first.
