Jarod Bryan Wins Sixth Maine Championship

Jarod Bryan won his sixth Maine Chess Championship this weekend at the Best Western Plus Grand Hotel in Waterville. Clear second was taken by Joseph Powell a Medomak High School freshman who turned in a stunning performance to post 4.0 points. His only loss was to the tournament's highest rated player Matthew Fishbein who shared third with Max Berube and John Brady. Blitz Chess Brunch Benefit in Blue Hill

On Sunday, April 6, the Blue Hill Consolidated School's chess team had a successful Blitz Chess Brunch Fundraiser. The Black Anchor Restaurant donated 60% of the proceeds to the team. The K-6 Maine State Championship team is raising money to attend the National Junior High Chess Championship in Atlanta later this month. There were about 100 people in attendance. Blue Hill students challenged the public to games of Blitz chess, and student musicians played their instruments for entertainment throughout the day. The team hopes to make this an annual event. The chess team thanks everyone who participated in this successful fundraiser!

Freeport Open Tournament Report

April 9, 2014

Fifty-six players turned out to compete in the three-section 2014 Freeport Open played on March 30th. International Master David Vigorito shared first place in the Open section with Carther Theogene, Wesley Parker went unbeaten and untied in the U1800 section and Ben Amar and Carter Brock did the same in the U1300 section.
