On March 30th, 2024, the long-awaited Maine Scholastic Individuals Championship took place at Lewiston High School in Lewiston, Maine. After many hard-fought battles, Gabriel Eaton took home first place with 4.5 / 5 points. Charlie Creswell was a close runner up with 4 / 5 points and received 2nd Place. Former US Women's Chess Champion (1961) Lisa Lane passed away on February 28, 2024 at the age of 90. She was the first chess player to be featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine and was a dynamic role model in the fight for women's rights. Two-time US Women's Chess Champion Jennifer Shahade called Lias Lane "an icon and a woman ahead of her time." We send our condolences to Lisa Lane's family and friends. |
