US Chess has entered into partnership with the U.S. Center for SafeSport, a Congressionally chartered organization that is dedicated exclusively to ending sexual, physical, and emotional abuse on behalf of athletes everywhere. It was established in 2017 to help abuse prevention, education, and accountability take root in every sport covered by the U.S. Olympic movement. The U.S. Center for SafeSport makes its training and education resources available to other organizations outside of the Olympic movement. |

Maine's newest chess club holds the honor of being the easternmost chess club in Maine and by default the easternmost chess club in the U.S. The Lubec Chess Club is now meeting Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the Lubec Memorial Library at 55 Water Street in Lubec. The Club attracted ten players at its third session. The Lubec Chess Club offers a friendly venue open to all level of players, with some instruction, casual games, and plans for US Chess rated events. Hope to see you there. |

Ding Liren is 17th World Chess Champion!

Congratulations to World Chess Champion Ding Liren! The World Chess Championship Match went into the tiebreaking phase after the fourteen-game classical portion ended in a 7.0 to 7.0 tie. Official rules stipulated that the players would play four games at the rapid time control of G/25 +10. After three draws, Ding Liren, with the black pieces, played a sharp game in a Ruy Lopez and was able to threaten promotion which caused Ian Nepomniachtchi to resign after Ding's sixty-eighth move. |

World Championship Match Report: Ding Wins Game 6, Match Tied

The World Chess Championship Match is being contested in Astana, Kazakhstan, from April 9-30 between Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren. After six games there have been four decisive results with each player posting two wins and two draws. This represents the most decisive Match up until this point since Karpov - Korchnoi 1981 which had the same score after six games. |
