MECA Board of Directors Election Ballots

It's time to elect a new Board of Directors to serve with the MECA officers on the Policy Board. The Policy Board is the governing body of the official state affiliate for the US Chess Federation, and acts to promote and coordinate chess activities in the state of Maine. Members of the Board of Directors serve a one year term, with the intent of offering additional regional representation to the various chess organizations and clubs across Maine. The Board of Directors has full voting rights with the MECA officers in initiating and implementing policy and procedural matters.

Mainers at the Boston University Open

November 20, 2010

One hundred eight players competed in the Sixteenth Boston University Open held at BU's George Sherman Union on November 6th, 2010. The tournament ended in a four-way tie for first between IM Robert Hungaski, FM William Kelleher, NM Alex Fikiet and Andrew Wang. Seven Maine players, all from Cape Elizabeth, participated in three section of the tournament. Each Mainer had a good day and all gained rating points. Seventh Presque Isle Open Tournament Report

Six players gathered in Aroostook County on November 13th, 2010 to compete in the Seventh Presque Isle Open. Roger Morin took first place with 3.5 points in four games. In this report you'll find photos from the tournament, the USCF crosstable and a selected game.

The Eighteenth Annual Deer Isle - Stonington Lacy Greenlaw Chess-a-thon

The Eighteenth Annual Deer Isle - Stonington Lacy Greenlaw Chess-a-thon took place on November 10th-11th, 2010 at Deer Isle - Stonington Elementary School. From 6:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. all kinds of chess was played including: blitz, bughouse, crazyhouse, live, simultaneous, blindfold, pairs and just plain skittles. This great event is held to raise money for DIS chess teams participating in the national championships and to honor the memory of former DIS chess player Lacy Greenlaw who passed away at the age of twenty-one.

Orono High School Scholastic and Friends Open

November 8, 2010

The Orono High School Scholastic and Friends Open was played on November 6th, 2010 and attracted fifteen players who competed in three round robin sections. Winners were Roger Morin in Section 1, Jiawei Zou in Section 2 and Langdon Holly in Section 3. Here's the illustrated tournament report with USCF crosstable and a selected game.
