MECA Board of Directors Election Ballots

11.25.10 It's time to elect a new Board of Directors to serve with the MECA officers on the Policy Board. The Policy Board is the governing body of the official state affiliate for the US Chess Federation, and acts to promote and coordinate chess activities in the state of Maine. Members of the Board of Directors serve a one year term, with the intent of offering additional regional representation to the various chess organizations and clubs across Maine. The Board of Directors has full voting rights with the MECA officers in initiating and implementing policy and procedural matters.

2011 Maine Chess Association Board of Directors Election

This year, three of the current Directors are running for re-election: Steve Abrahams of Bangor, Jon Malev of Scarborough, and Brian Roderick of Chelsea. Tom Sandford of Veazie is not running for re-election. Former MECA president Phil Lowell of Portland announced his willingness to run for the vacant position at the 2010 annual membership meeting held in Waterville on October 24.
All candidates (declared or write-in) must have a current active MECA membership to be elected, and must maintain that membership during their term of office. They are expected to participate in the several business meetings and the annual membership meeting held each year by MECA.
Any MECA member with an active current membership is eligible to vote for up to four candidates. If you are unsure about your MECA membership status, please contact MECA Secretary Lee Doucette by email ( or phone (207-797-4215 after 6PM) for confirmation.

Save the ballot file to your local computer, then open the file, indicate your votes, save the file, and attach the file to an email to MECA Secretary Lee Doucette, . Write-in candidates may be offered by selecting "Other" on the ballot and providing the name of the proposed candidate.


All ballots must be received no later than Thursday, December 30. Results will be tabulated and announced on Friday, December 31 by the MECA Secretary.
