MECA Augusta Series Fall Quads Tournament Report

Twenty-six players turned out to compete in the MECA Augusta Series Fall Quads, played on November 22, 2008 at the Ground Round Restaurant in Augusta, Maine. Topping Quads 1-6 were Adam Schaff, Barry Magda, Jim DuBois, Akagi Kayashima, Kris Fecteau and Stephen Kaluzynski. The Augusta Series is the brainchild of Portland Chess Club President, Lee Doucette. MECA Augusta Series Fall Quads *Reminder*

November 19, 2008

The Augusta Series resumes this weekend with the Fall Quads to be played on Saturday, November 22 at the Ground Round in Augusta. Three rounds at a time control of Game in 75 minutes makes for a pleasant day of chess and you'll even have time to get in a little holiday shopping. Hope to see you there.

Eastern Maine Open Tournament Report

Thirty-two players competed in three sections at the Eastern Maine Open played at the University of Maine, Orono on October 25, 2008. Roger Morin, Wesley Parker/Bruce Sherwood/Gheorghe Teodoruscu and Robert Freccero came out on top in the Open, U1400 and U1000 sections. Sixteenth Annual Deer Isle-Stonington Lacy Greenlaw Chess-A-Thon

Now a long-standing tradition in downeast Maine, The Deer Isle-Stonington Chess-A-Thon took place from 6:00 p.m. Friday, November 7 - 6:00 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2008 at Deer Isle-Stonington Elementary School. This year's event was named in honor of Lacy Greenlaw, a former Mariner chessplayer who passed away at the age of 21 after a long struggle with cancer.
