Lubec Fall Swiss 2025 Tournament Report

11/10/25 The Lubec Chess Club hosted a ten-player fall Swiss chess tournament at the Lubec Memorial Library on Sunday, November 9, 2025. The three-round, G/45 +5 tournament was played in one section with prizes to the top three players and top U1000 players. Here's the illustrated tournament report with US Chess crosstables.

As the tournament progressed, mariners brought their vessels into safe harbor in preparation for impending inclement weather.

Ten players participated in a tournament in the easternmost town in the US that had the feel of a small invitational event. Players enjoyed three rounds of G/45 +5 chess with beautiful views out the tournament room window. Food, drinks, and coffee were provided free of charge.

Topping the crosstable with a perfect score of 3.0 was Tobias Coffey. Just off the lead with 2.0 points were Chris Crittenden, Hoty Briggs, S. Warren Lohr, and Dan DeLuca.

Julian Nolan and Josie Brickner were the two players receiving top U1000 prizes in the Open section.

Thanks to all who participated in this tournament and a big thank you to Nancy Briggs and the staff and volunteers at the Lubec Memorial Library for their continued support of the Lubec Chess Club and chess in Maine.
