Wyatt Hendrix Wins 2024 Maine Chess Player of the Year
1/25/25 The annual Maine Chess Player of the Year competition made a triumphant return in 2024 after a six-year hiatus. The competition is based on a player's 5 best performances in qualifying tournaments over the course of the year. For a tournament to qualify, it must be at least 3 rounds, be open to the public, and be a Swiss or similar format. In first place with a score of 22.7 (out of a possible 25) and the 2024 Maine Chess Player of the Year is the indomitable Wyatt Hendrix. Congratulations Wyatt! In 2nd place with 21.8/25 was the fearsome NM Matthew Fishbein, and closely following in 3rd with 21.5/25 was the intrepid William Ravn. The top U1800 prize went to David Haluska with 19.5/25, top U1600 honors went to Isaiah Fallon with 18/25 and claiming the U1400 prize, also on 18/25, was Antony Freudig Netting the U1200 prize with 17.5/25 was former MECA President Paul Ciarrocchi. Congratulations to all the winners and may next year bring another exciting struggle for the long-coveted title of Maine Chess Player of the Year!
