2024 Maine Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships Tournament Report

01/09/25 The 2024 Maine Rapid and Blitz Championships were held on the 17-18th of August at the beautiful Wells Reserve at Laudholm. Matthew Fishbein, Wyatt Hendrix, and Will Ravn shared the title of 2024 Maine Rapid Chess Champion scoring 6.0 points in the eight-round tournament. Matthew Fishbein took top honors in the 2024 Maine Blitz Championship with 14.5 points in 16 rounds. Aaron Spencer and Wyatt Hendrix finsihed second and third with 13.0 and 12.0 points respectively. On Saturday 18 players played 8 rounds of G15+10 to determine the Maine Rapid Champion. At the end of the day 3 players tied for 1st with 6/8 - NM Matthew Fishbein, Wyatt Hendrix, and Will Ravn. Just off the pace at 5.5/8 were Aaron Spencer and Expert Will Moorhouse visiting from Virginia. On Sunday 12 players played 16 rounds (8 doublerounds) of G3+2 to determine the Maine Blitz Champion. Mathew Fishbein rose to the occasion and loomed over the field with a very strong 14.5/16 showing. In second place with 13/16 was the crafty Aaron Spencer, and close behind on 12/16 was Wyatt Hendrix in 3rd. A big thanks to the Wells Reserve at Laudholm for graciously hosting this event, to Aaron Spencer for acting as Tournament Director, and to all the players and volunteers who made this event possible.
