Maine Chess Association Scholastic Committee Meeting
Tuesday, October 15th, 2024
Minutes
Three Scholastic Committee members were in attendance: Wyatt Hendrix, Sharon Klein,
and Justin Fisette.
The committee selected Hampden Academy to host the 2025 Scholastic Teams
Championship. This was based on the space offered, which included many rooms that will allow
sections to have separate space, and its geographic location. The committee examined county by
county attendance data to determine that the greater Bangor area is still the most equitable
location for the scholastic teams event.
The Maine Women's and Girls' Championship was awarded to Foxcroft Academy, which
submitted the only bid. However, after a conversation with the host it was decided to move this
event to February 1st to avoid a date conflict.
One bid was received for scholastic individuals. However the bid would necessitate the
event moving to Sunday, March 23rd. Based on the committee members' experiences, and
conversations with others, this was determined to not be an effective solution. The committee
decided to extend the bidding deadline to November 1st, and if no bids were received by then
the committee would pursue renting space.
The committee agreed to decide the scholastic individuals bids over email following the
deadline.
Respectfully submitted,
Wyatt Hendrix
Interim Chair - MECA Scholastic Committee
