Skowhegan Area High School Hosts First-Ever Chess Tournament
01.21.22 Ten players competed in the Skowhegan Area High School January Blitz chess tournament on Thursday, January 20, 2022. Although the event was non-rated, it was the first chess event in the school's history using US Chess official pairing rules and tournament regulations. The SAHS Chess Club looks forward to hosting rated chess tournaments in the near future. Congratulations to Jack Donoghue who won the events with a perfect four points in four games and to all who participated.

Jack Donaghue led the ten-player field at the Skowhegan Area High School January Blitz chess tournament played in the school's Media Center on Thursday, January 20, 2022. Donaghue racked up four straight wins to take top honors in the first chess event hosted at SAHS.
Just off the leader's pace was Nick Roderick who took clear second with 3.0 points.
A five-way tie for third place ensued between: Taban Young, Kaden Luce, Dillon Moore, Luke Hong, and Ryan Donoghue with Young taking home the third-place medal on tiebreaks.
Tournament Results
Skowhegan Area High School junior Jack Donoghue won the event with an unbeaten and untied 4.0 points in as many games.
Taban Young makes a move in his game vs Dillon Moore. Young tied for third place overall and received the thrid place medal on tiebreaks.

Oleksii Sverbyvus makes a move in his game vs Nick Roderick. Roderick put up 3.0 points to finish the tournament in clear second place.
