Ben Mock Wins Class B Prize at U.S. Open
08.11.21 While representing Maine at the 37th annual GM Arnold Denker National Tournament of High School State Champions, Ben Mock found the time to participate in--and win--the Class B prize at the 2021 U. S. Open in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Congratulations Ben on crushing it in Cherry Hill!

After the Denker scholastic tournament of champions, Mainer Benjamin Mock continued his winning ways in the nine round U.S. Open with 515 competitors. He finished with 5.5/9.0 and took Class B (US Chess 1600-1800) first place in the final standings. There were a total of seven U1800 players who finished with 5.5 points and the winners shared the prize money. Maine Chess Association President Michael Dudley also played in the U.S. Open and secured 3.0 points. Mike represented Maine at the US Chess delegates meeting which took place during the tournament week. We thank Benjamin and Michael for representing Maine with great distinction at the U.S. Open.

I'm guessing Ben didn't win enough money to get an 1800 floor if he had to split the prize. Still, his play in both tournaments in Cherry Hill was incredible. Congratulations, Ben!
