Wesley So Wins U.S. Championship

10.30.20 The 2020 U.S. Championship was held online from October 26-29. Wesley So topped the field with an undefeated 9.0 points in eleven games. Jeffrey Xiong finished second with 8.5 points and Ray Robson took clear third with 7.5. Here's the details with links to national reports, images, and games.

This year continues to be one like no other.

An online U.S. Chess Championship with a rapid time control of G/25 + 5 was something none of us could have guessed would be the norm just one year ago. Nonetheless, this is where we find ourselves as 2020 comes to a close.

The Championship was played in round robin format and included twelve of the strongest chess players in the United States. Games were exciting and interesting despite--or on account of depending on your perspective--the faster time control.
