July Quads Tournament Report

07.17.20 Long-time tournament director, organizer, and coach Steve Wong hosted the July Quads at the Creative Arts Center in Brewer on Saturday, July 11th. Here are the results and some photos from the event.

Ten players competed in the July Quads: one quad and one sextet.

Ben Mock and Eli Slaughter shared first in the quad with 2.0 points apiece. The two leaders were followed by Nathan Gates and Michael Dudley who each put up one point.

Stephen Wong led the sextet with 3.0 points. Just off the lead was Stephen's brother Rodger Wong with 2.0 points. In twenty-seven years of tournament chess these brothers have never faced each other in a rated event until now. In their first rated encounter, Stephen bested his brother and took the full point. Lihn Nguyen and Miles Kaplan scored 1.5 points and Joshua Lorenzo and Kate Ervin rounded out the group with 1.0 and 0.0 points respectively.
