The States Chess Cup Match: Looking for Maine Players

Saumik Narayaan, a talented young organizer from Minnesota, is organizing an online chess match between states modeled after a series of matches played between the state of Minnesota and the province of Manitoba dating back to 1935. Each state will field four players who will play four games at 15 minutes + 2 seconds per match with one match contested each week. International Chess Day Monday, July 20, 2020

This Monday, July 20, 2020 is International Chess Day. It's also the 96th anniversary of the World Chess Federation (FIDE). FIDE is asking all chess players to mark this auspicious day by teaching someone how to play chess then posting your experiences on social media with the hashtag #Internationalchessday.

Mark Maynard Wins 2019 Maine Correspondence Championship

Mark Maynard won the 2019 Maine Correspondence Chess Championship by a clear 2.5 points over his nearest rival Wyatt Hendrix. Maynard scored a perfect 8.0 points in the eight-round event that was played online. His game vs Hendrix was recently featured in the Chess Life online blog The Check Is In The Mail. Congratulations to Mark and all who participated in this event.
