2019 Winter Deaflympics Blitz Tournament
12.14.19 The first chess event at the 2019 Winter Deaflympics was an eleven-round Blitz (3m+3s) tournament with separate sections for men and women. In the Women's section, Yulita Turkeeva of Russia took first place with the impressive undefeated score of 10.0 points (nine wins and two draws). The Men's section was won by GM Yehuda Gruenfeld of Israel with 9.0 points (9 wins and two losses). The American team turned in a strong performance. In a field with two GM's, three IM's, and two FM's, the Americans Oscar Petrov, Abraham Glasser, and Branton Stewart scored 6.0, 4.5, and 4.0 points respectively.

The Men's section of the 2019 Winter Deaflympics Blitz Chess tournament had forty-three players including seven holding FIDE titles.
GM Yehuda Gruenfeld of Israel came first with 9/11. Just half a point back was the Polish Mateusz Lapaj with 8.5/11. Taking clear third place with 7.5 points was the Italian International Master Duilio Collutiis.
Yulia Turkeeva of Russia topped the Women's section with 10/11 on an undefeated performance of nine wins and two draws. Half a point back was the Ukranian Tatiana Bklanova with 9.5/11. Olga Gerasimova, also from Russia, finished clear third with 8.5/11.
The Americans turned in a very respectable performance in the Individual Blitz tournament. The top American scorer was Oscar Petrov with 6.0 points in 11 games. Abraham Glasser put up 4.5 points, and Branton Stewart scored 4/11.
Next up on the schedule is a nine-round 90m+30s team tournament.

International Chess Committee of the Deaf members hosted a technical meeting to review the rules and procedures of the tournament.
After the chess tournament we watched the USA vs Finland hockey game.
And that's how it ended: USA 6 Finland 2.

After the sporting events we enjoyed some classic Italian cusine including pasta i figioli,
polenta, and pork ribs with brick oven roasted vegetables.
