Morin Wins January Houlton Open

01.12.19 Roger Morin ran the table at the January 2019 Houlton Open played on Saturday, January 12th at the Art Studio in Houlton, Maine. Eight players, braving sub-zero wind chill temperatures, traveled to Aroostook County to participate in this event. Just off the perfect score of the leader were Cynthia Cui (3.0) and Tristan Cousineau (2.5). Here's the illustrated tournament report with U.S. Chess crosstables.

What a great way to start 2019. Roger Morin blanked his opponents by putting up 4.0 points in four games at the January 2019 Houlton Open. His opponents included Roger Hardison (1597), Cynthia Cui (1903), Ray Haines (1791), and Lance Beloungie (1700). Congratulations to Roger on a fine performance to start the new year.

The tournament's highest-rated player, Cynthia Cui, had to settle for second place with 3.0 points. The middleschooler Tristan Cousineau took clear third with 2.5 points. His only loss was to Cui in round three.

Lance Beloungie finished in sole fourth with 2.0 points. Beloungie edged out Ray Haines and Nathan Gates each of whom put up a point and a half. Roger Harison and Michael Dudley rounded out the crosstable with 1.0 and 0.5 points respectively.
