US Chess crosstable of this event

Twenty-four players combined from Cape Elizabeth, Bonny Eagle, Cheverus, Falmouth, and Yarmouth schools in a USCF-rated Quad tournament on Saturday, December 1st at Thomas Memorial Library in Cape Elizabeth.

Local chess players gather most Saturdays at the library, and the visit of Bonny Eagle allowed some rated competition at the beginning of the scholastic season.

Tyler Rodenberger won a tightly fought Quad 1 with only 2 points, which included the highest rated player of the day, Aidan Thomas (1326) of Cheverus.

Three of the quads were swept - two by Bonny Eagle players Jace Anastacio and Finley Whiting, and the third by Aleksey Sulyandziga of Yarmouth.

Two of the quads were tied for the top spot. Creed Couturier and Joseph Vetterline (Both of Bonny Eagle) tied their quad at 2.5 points each, while the highlight of the day was the deciding game of Quad 2, where Maximilian Matthews (Bonny Eagle) fought a disciplined game, which lasted long after all other games were completed, to deprive Declan Thomas (Bonny Eagle) of a clean sweep, and take a share of top spot for himself.

Thanks to Oisin O'Searcoid and Andrew Demaris for directing and to all who contributed to making this tournament a great success.
