Chess Tables Installed on Brewer Waterfront

06.02.17 Thanks in part to chess coach, tournament director, and Brewer, Maine resident Steve Wong, two outdoor chess tables have been installed on the Brewer waterfront. The tables are located just southwest of the Wilson Street Bridge along the Penobscot River in a public space known as the Brewer Children's Garden. We reported on this project back in February 2016 and it's wonderful to see that the chess tables are now installed and available to the public.

Stephen Wong (left) son of Steve Wong (who had the original idea for this project) and a protege enjoy a game at the new chess tables installed in the Brewer Children's Garden along the Penobscot River.

Thanks to Stephen Wong for contributing to this report.

The players enjoy their game as the sun sets over the Penobscot River.

Here's the exact location of the chess tables. There is a path just to the left of Save-A-Lot on South Main Street in Brewer between Brimmer and School Streets. The path leads to the waterfront and just to the left you will spot the Children's Garden and the chess tables.

Thanks to Brewer Parks and Recreation, Beachstone Sustainable Products and all those who made this project possible.

Are chess pieces available or should you bring your own?

Hi JF Campbell,
I would bring pieces. ChessMaine.net will donate two sets of pieces shortly but they are not there yet.
