You may have noticed our new Internet Chess Club banner at the top of the page. We have partnered with ICC and have become a member of their Referral Program. What this means is that each ICC membership purchased though our banner will generate real dollars to support ChessMaine.net web hosting, domain name, and publishing platform fees. ICC is a great site with a tremendous amount of instructional content, opportunities to play USCF-rated games, live coverage of chess events from all over the world, and a huge online chess community. We urge you to give ICC a try in 2017 while helping to support ChessMaine.net at the same time. Thanks.

The inaugural meeting of the Bangor Area High School Scholastic Chess League (BAHSSCL) took place on a very cold December 16. The non-rated High School Holiday Blitz tournament was held at the Bangor Public Library. Hermon High School was represented by three players and John Bapst by three players. One homeschooled player and the TD/John Bapst coach, Michael Dudley rounded out the field. The BAHSSCL was formed to provide opportunities for high school players in the greater Bangor area to compete in interscholastic tournaments throughout the winter sports season, culminating with the state team and state individual tournaments at the University of Maine Orono in March.
