September Houlton Open Tournament Report
09.18.16 Seven players with an average rating of USCF 1811 competed in the September Houlton Open at the Art Studio in Houlton, Maine on September 17th. A five-way tie for first ensued between Roger Morin, Alex Slive, Ray Haines, Cynthia Cui, and Nathan Gates. Here's the illustrated tournament report with USCF crosstable.

Thanks to Roger Morin for contributing to this report.
The Houlton Opens keep on coming! Our thanks to organizer and director Roger Morin for offering opportunities for USCF-rated tournaments in Aroostook county.
Alex Slive made the trek from Boston to participate in the tournament (That's a good five-hour trip one way.) and almost came out on top if not for a draw with Nathan Gates in round two and a round three loss to Ray Haines.
Behind the five equal firsts were Roger Hardison (1.0) and Leonardo Cui (0.5).

Players were able to enjoy many interesting pieces of art during the tournament.

Roger Hardison (left) plays Leonardo Cui while Nathan Gates (background left) and Ray Haines mix it up.

Comments
Roger and others,
It was a pleasure to play chess way up in Aroostock County. I also got in a great day of hiking at Baxter State Park.
I hope to visit again!
Thanks,
Alex
