Twenty-one chess players from Maine, as well as a few other states, competed in this 3 section tournament during the Great Falls Balloon Festival. Jarod Bryan (3.5), William Ravn (2.5) and Michael Moore (2.5) took the first three spots in the Open division. In round 3, Ravn took the game with Bryan right down to the wire.

In U1800, Curt Brock (3.5), Jon Buxton (2.5) and Ramiro Ponce (2.5) were the top finishers. In U1300, Cheverus High student Nathan Dunn (4.0) turned in the only perfect score of the day to finish first, followed by John Hooper (2.0), Benjamin Mock (2.0) and John Morgan (2.0). Unfortunately, winds prevented the hot air balloon launches both that morning and evening. The location at the Hilton Garden Inn would have been an excellent spectating location.
