Cheverus High School Competes at Nationals

Students from Cheverus High School in Portland, Maine competed in the National High School Championship in Columbus, Ohio on April 10-12, 2015. Cheverus fielded two teams and took 32nd place in the U1600 section 15th in the unrated section. Here's the illustrated tournament report with USCF crosstables.

Presque Isle May Tournament Report

There was a four-player rated section and a six player non-rated section at the Presque Isle May Tournament held on May 9th, 2015. Roger Morin won the quad with a perfect three for three. We bring you images, USCF crosstables, and two interesting games from this event.

Player of the Year Current Standings

After three tournaments in the 2015 Maine Chess Player of the Year competition two players are tied for first place. Brian Hurst and Ryan Tripp have each played 13 games and have accumulated 20.5 points. We're still in the early going of the competition with six of nine tournaments remaining.

Dmitry Albin Wins Class A Section at Eastern Class Championships

May 7, 2015

Maine player Dmitry Albin had an impressive result at the Eastern Class Championships held in Sturbridge, Massachusetts on the weekend of April 24-26, 2015. Albin put up 4.5 points in five games, took home a nice paycheck, and padded his USCF rating with nearly 100 points. Congratulations to Dmitry!

May Houlton Open Tournament Report

Six players competed in the small but strong Houlton Open on May 2nd at the Art Studio on Court Street in Houlton. Roger Morin and Ray Haines shared the top spot in this three-round, G/75 tournament. Just off the lead with 2.0 points was Lance Beloungie.

Cameron Wendell and BHCS Chess Club Featured in Bangor Daily News

May 2, 2015

An article and video appeared in the May 2nd Bangor Daily News online site featuring coach Cameron Wendell and his chess team at the Blue Hill Consolidated School. The team won the Maine State Scholastic Championship and competed in the Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky taking second place in the K-9 U900 section.
