2013 ChessMaine.net Championship Tournament Report
09.27.13 Twenty-two players turned out on a rainy early summer day to compete in the ChessMaine.net Championship on June 26th, 2013 at the Cotter Union on the campus of Colby College in Waterville, Maine. The tournament was contested in two sections: Jarod Bryan won the open with a perfect 4.0 points in four games and Dan Fishbein took first in the U1250 section winning all of his games and scoring 3.0 points. Here's the illustrated tournament report with USCF crosstable.
Jarod Bryan was the top-rated player on the wall chart and he fulfilled his destiny by winning four in a row to take first place in the open section. He defeated the tournament's second-, third-, fourth- and seventh-place finishers. Tom Sandford, seeded seventh going into the tournament, had an outstanding performance scoring 3.0 points and tying for second place with third-seeded Roger Morin. Sandford's only loss was to the tournament winner.
Brett Parker, Gregory Sheilds and Lance Beloungie finished in the 2.5 point tier tying for 4th-6th in the open section. Trailing them were Phil Lowell, Lee Doucette and Wesley Parker who scored 2.0 points and tied for 7th-9th.
In the U1250 section, Dan Fishbein was perfect on the day with three wins in three games. He was followed by Joe Powell (2.0), Gheorghe Teodorescu (1.0) and Lois Morin (scoreless).
